Lifting Voices is a nonprofit, grassroots organization which helps young people discover and share their voices in order to grow, find joy, and accomplish change. Lifting Voices conducts writing workshops, gathers oral history on contemporary social issues, and provides youth perspectives to policy makers and the community as a whole. Our vision is that the words of young people will heal, inspire, and instruct families, communities, and people in power.

Our approach is comprehensive. We improve lives from the bottom up and from the top down.

Our bottom-up work is done through our writing workshops. In the workshops, we give under-served youth a meaningful connection to words. We show them that the written word is a powerful thing. We show them their voices matter.

Our top-down work is done through our oral history program. In the oral history program, we share the stories of people living on the fault lines of fractured communities with decision makers. We give them voices of experience. And we give those voices a meaningful outlet for their knowledge.
